Rotunda, University of Virginia
Educational freelance writers often have the task of "translating" academic prose and thought into less ponderous, more reader-friendly communications. As a former university professor, I’ve taught writing and literature, edited a peer-reviewed journal (in APA style) and consulted in higher education for many years. For the University of Virginia, I've created a number of strategic planning presentations and brochures, including a  monograph on restructuring the university and a recent strategic planning and fundraising document for the Curry School of Education (see below).

Degrees: Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison; B.A., M.A.,

[John] and I have spent a good amount of time together as he gathered background for a profile.
I have seen the quality of both his feature and public relations work, and I feel confident in recommending him as a skilled and versatile writer. He is also an astute reader of political contexts, and uncommonly good company.

Educational Freelance Writing/Editing

Five years ago, the University of Virginia embarked on a long-range strategic planning process aimed at ensuring excellence in four areas: Fine and Performing Arts, International Activities, Public Service and Outreach, and Science and Technology. Planning commissions were formed and in year 2001 generated reports (averaging15,000 words each) which I edited and in some cases rewrote.

The reports have created the basis for much of the university's planning efforts for the next twenty years. Background information and the documents themselves are available on the Virginia2020 Website.
